my name is stefan, I´m a german, married (very happy) with a vietnamese and learn tiẽng việt tirght now..
as karsten mentioned, the pronouncation is the hardest for us western people.. fortunatley I got a wife and three vietnamese talking kids around me, wich makes it easier..but they speak german to, so there was no really need to learn việt for me..
but now my girl getting 15 an 16 and if I don´t speak the language they start kiđing about me and I don´t understand
so I have to..
and it´s fun anyway..

Willkommen. It's nice that you register to VinaTown and want to learn more. At least, you have a good motivation with your kids who start kidding about you. If you take some lessons here, you can surprise your beloved wife by telling her things in Vietnamese when she least expects it. :)

I regret not to share your taste on Roquefort but I must admit that Germany has lots of delicious meat, bread and Apfelstrudel (though this one comes from Österreich).

if we ever meet I will introduce you into the art of eating roquefort and how to enjoy it.
For the Apfelstrudel: I would say it´s a southern german/austrian development..in my area it´s very common and my grandma made it during summer at least twice a weak.. with vanillesauce mmhhhhhh
oder wie der vietnamese sagt: Món ăn này thi rât ngon.

the problem with surprising my wife: I have to learn together with here to learn the northern way to pronounce.. if I would use your way to pronounce I would be even more confused as I already am.

English is not my mother tongue either, but my notions of German from school faded away long ago, so let's stick with the Shakespeare's tongue. :)

Thanks for you kind offer to discover the hidden treasures of Roquefort, but since I consider cheese as a major worldwide pollution threat , could you change with some German sausage and beer instead ?

As for Northern accent, I'm sure we Vinatown team might teach you a trick or two one of these days. Keep connected !

I was just beginning to take you serious, but to characterize Roquefort as a major pollution problem is downgrading you rank from "serious"to "halfserious scientist". I´m very sorry about that

Anyway, there is almost nothing, wich can´t be healed with a nice "Schlenkerla" (smoked beer) and a some Bratwurst...
