Hi William,
I always like your interesting questions.
Vietnamese use the word "mình" (lit. means "body") to refer to themselves.
When to use "mình"?
- When you talk to yourself (writing a diary, thinking...):
Eg: Mình có yêu anh ấy không nhỉ? (Do I love him?)
- When you talk to people at the same position/age:
Eg: Mình không thích trời mưa (I don't like rain).
- When you refer to you and the speakers (same position/age) as a group, frequently used as an invitation:
Eg: Mình đi ăn trưa nhé (Let's go eat lunch!)
- When you are not sure about listeners' position/age.
When I come up with other situations, I can write more here.
If you'r still unclear, feel free to ask us!
