Hi everyone. Last time, you have learned 4 Vietnamese consonants and 9 new words generated from them. Today, you will learn three more new consonants and 6 more words. It’s more complicated since some consonants can only go with some specific vowels. The challenge is ahead. Are you ready?
Lesson 5: Vietnamese consonants: G,H,K
1/G- zê gờ
GÀ (chicken) GỖ (wood)
G can go with A, U and O. G with I is a more complicated letter combination. G is never seen with Y and cannot go with E. Just keep these things in mind, you’ll learn about it later
2/H- hắt-hờ
HÈ (summer) HỌ (They)
Vietnamese “H” is like “H” in the word “How”. H can combine with all consonants. H is quite an important consonant because it can accompany with other consonants: G, K, T… to make a more complicated letter combination.
3/K-ka
KỂ (to tell) KÍ (kilogram)
Why there is not Vietnamese reading for K? Because when we follow the rules by adding “ờ” after the consonant to make Vietnamese reading, K may turn to “cờ”, which is exactly the reading of “C”. As you have learned last time, K can only go with E’s family (E,Ê), I and Y.
*Notes: Because of the pronunciation of I and Y, it’s hard to tell if one consonant should go with I and Y. I.e, Hoa Kì and Hoa Kỳ, Mỹ and Mĩ (both mean "United States") are acceptable. Ok, that’s all for today. Try to master this until you’ll learn new things next week! |
